While one prefers to eat a banana before exercising, another prefers a rice cake with a layer of jam. But what is the best thing to eat if you want to burn fat faster? Several experts explain.

1. Pineapple

If we are to believe Shaikh Sadaf - endocrinologist at the University of London - pineapple is the ultimate pre-workout snack. "Pineapple is high in carbohydrates, but also high in fiber, so you can enjoy the benefits for longer without spikes in your blood sugar," she explains. "Moreover, pineapple is packed with water, which also keeps you better hydrated during your workout."

2. Oatmeal

Do you have oatmeal breakfast every morning? Doing well! It is a source of fiber-rich complex carbohydrates that provide a lot of energy. If you eat this before you exercise, you will notice that you can get a lot more out of your training. Make sure in the store that you get the wholemeal variant. This reduces the chance of spikes in your blood sugar level.

3. Bananas

Since bananas are high in carbohydrates and fiber, it is a good idea to consume them before exercise. “It's best to eat foods with a high carbohydrate content at such times,” says health expert Usama Azam. "They will not only give you extra energy, but also help you burn fat."

4. Fruits and nuts

"Combine high-fiber fruits such as an apple with plant foods that contain both proteins and fats, such as a handful of almonds," advises dietitian Rachel Fine. "They provide a good mix between complex carbohydrates, healthy fats and proteins, so that you will perform better and your fat burning will also get a boost."

5. Water with lemon juice

According to Azam, it is a good idea to drink a glass of water with the juice of half a lemon fifteen minutes before your workout. "Lemons help to increase your metabolism and burn extra calories during exercise."
